Nicolas Raskin’s season in numbers with Rangers star back in contention vs Hibernian

Russell Martin seems to have resolved whatever issues he had with Nicolas Raskin at Rangers ahead of facing Hibernian on Saturday.

The Scottish manager had a potential falling out with the 24-year-old, subsequently leaving him out of the squad against Celtic and Hearts.

Hibernian are now set to travel to Ibrox on 20 September, with the former Southampton boss clearly fighting for his future in G51.

While Raskin may have done something massive for Martin to punish him, his return to the team is a no-brainer considering he’s been one of the Glaswegian outfit’s best players.

Nicolas Raskin second-highest-rated Rangers player in league

Raskin has been one of the best players for the Gers in the William Hill Premiership this season, as per Sofascore.

The Belgium international is just behind John Souttar, with a 7.27 rating, when it comes to players who’ve played in at least 50 per cent of games for the Light Blues in the current campaign.

It’s not surprising to see the former Standard Liege star ranked as the best midfielder at Ibrox despite the Glaswegian outfit’s struggles in the league.

Raskin is someone who can help Martin survive the sack at the Gers, and his inclusion in the starting lineup against Hibernian should be a no-brainer.

The Belgian national has made three appearances in the Scottish top flight under the former Southampton boss, with 2.7 tackles and three recoveries per game, getting one assist and a passing accuracy of 85 per cent.

Even in the Light Blues’ short-lived Champions League campaign, Raskin was key for them and was one of the best players on the pitch despite the 3-1 defeat against Club Brugge in the first leg of the play-off.

Russell Martin to start Nicolas Raskin vs Hibernian

Raskin was linked with an exit from Ibrox in the previous transfer window, but a deal didn’t materialise, something fans will definitely be pleased about.

Rangers have won just three of their 12 matches this season, and Martin is now looking to turn things around, but it may be too little too late.

What the Scottish manager can do is ensure the Gers don’t get eliminated from the Premier Sports Cup against Hibs ahead of his eventual sacking at Ibrox.

Even if the Glaswegian outfit wins a few of their upcoming matches, the ex-Saints boss’ tenure in G51 is undoubtedly untenable, but the least he can do is pick the best team against Hibs to qualify for the semi-finals.
