Russell Martin sack timeline emerges as Andrew Cavenagh to attend Rangers vs Hibernian

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may be in for a reality check regarding Russell Martin at Rangers.

The Scottish manager has broken several unwanted records at the Gers and could potentially have the shortest tenure of any permanent manager if he’s sacked before 7 December, which seems likely.

Kevin Thelwell may already be looking for a replacement manager at Ibrox ahead of the Premier Sports Cup tie on 20 September.

While Cavenagh is backing Martin for now, a change in the US consortium’s stance has been suggested.

Rangers fans to force Andrew Cavenagh to change Russell Martin stance

Cavenagh may realise the extent of anger among the supporters for Martin during the Hibernian fixture, Michael Grant says.

The Times journalist has revealed that the American owners are supposed to be in attendance for the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final at Ibrox.

Grant feels that witnessing the atmosphere in G51 against Hibs could possibly give the US consortium second thoughts about the Scottish manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football on 16 September, the journalist said: “So far, [Martin] has the backing of the new American owners. How long is that going to last? I’m not sure. We believe they’ll be coming to attend the game against Hibs on the weekend. And when they realise the extent of the anger from the support, that may change their opinion about supporting Martin.”

Andrew Cavenagh risks blame for Ibrox crisis

Cavenagh must provide answers at Ibrox after a disastrous start to the league campaign.

Fans have already lost faith in Martin, and the fingers will be pointed towards the boardroom if the current crisis is allowed to continue.

It’s clear to most supporters that the Scottish manager is out of his depth in G51, with the pressure of success getting to him.

Rangers have a no-brainer decision to appoint Steven Gerrard immediately as they look to turn things around after winning just three of their 12 games so far.

The Liverpool icon is a known entity in Scotland’s top flight after his previous stint at Ibrox, breaking the Gers’ 10-year league title drought.

Someone in the hierarchy needs to take charge of the situation and make the tough calls, as fans are already planning to boycott the upcoming matches.
