Rangers told to sack Russell Martin immediately despite ‘absolute disgrace’ at Ibrox

Russell Martin’s nightmare start to his time at Rangers continued last time out.

Rangers’ 2-0 loss to Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday compounded the misery for Martin, who has yet to win a league game in charge.

The Union Bears have released a statement calling for Martin’s immediate removal as manager, alongside CEO Patrick Stewart.

Martin and the club’s hierarchy are now under huge pressure to change something, with the fans’ fury at an all-time high, although not all of it is their fault.

Rangers decisions from Hearts game branded ‘disgrace’

Rangers’ latest defeat meant that Martin’s side have now made their worst start to the season since 1978.

The fallout from the shambles at Ibrox has continued, with pundits weighing in on Saturday’s events.

Paul Slane from the Keeping the Ball on the Ground Podcast was damning in his analysis of the game, saying: “I think he’s got to go, mate, to be honest. There are no signs of improvement. It’s another performance that was really, really bad.”

He also spoke of Lawrence Shankland’s controversial goal and felt as though Rangers were unfairly on the wrong end of a few occasions: “I thought the decisions were an absolute disgrace against them.

“All of them, the big decisions. I think Shankland handballs it. They say it’s not conclusive, you can clearly see it’s a handball, so I don’t know where that came from. Then the goal they score. To me, there’s nothing on the goalkeeper. Never a foul. Then the penalty, I don’t think so either, I think he just falls.”

While Rangers fans can feel hard done by the decisions, no arguments can be made for the performance produced on Saturday.

Rangers owners must make Russell Martin decision

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises are also under enormous pressure, having backed Martin heavily as manager.

They appointed the former Southampton man in the summer, much to the surprise of many associated with the club, also spending over £20million in the transfer market.

Martin’s reign so far has been nothing short of a disaster, and the club’s hierarchy now must admit their mistake and remove the manager.

Russell Martin has had a terrible start to the season

If the owners continue their stance, fans will become more and more furious, and the protests at Ibrox will continue.

The only way Cavenagh and Co. can save face is by sacking Martin and getting a replacement who can turn the season around.
