Kris Boyd reveals Russell Martin has led Rangers fans to do something they’ve ‘never’ done before
Russell Martin and Rangers fans have no love lost between them as calls for his sacking grow louder.
Andrew Cavenagh risks fan fury at Ibrox as the Gers’ hierarchy are uniting behind the Scottish manager ahead of the Premier Sports quarter-final clash against Hibernian on 20 September.
The 39-year-old head coach has managed zero wins in the William Hill Premiership after five matches, leaving the Light Blues 10th in the league table.
Martin knows very well that the Ibrox faithful don’t want him, and they’ve certainly made it clear with their actions recently.

Rangers fans make their voices heard as Russell Martin finished at Ibrox
There may be no way back for Martin at the Gers after an abysmal start to the season, Kris Boyd says.
The ex-forward has claimed that he’s never heard a football stadium be the way it was as Hearts ended their 11-year winless run at Ibrox.
It’s clear that the fans have had enough of the former Southampton boss at the Glaswegian outfit, and it feels like a matter of time before a change is made in the dugout.
Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland on 17 September, Boyd said: “No, I can’t [see a way back for Martin]. The tipping point was a few weeks ago. I’ve never ever heard a football stadium like it was on Saturday. The fans have had enough.”

Ibrox faithful also want to see Patrick Stewart gone
Patrick Stewart is also in the crosshairs of the Ibrox faithful as they haven’t been satisfied with how the chief executive officer has performed since arriving in December 2024.
The Gers’ CEO has been a key figure in the change at G51 since the takeover and also played a role in appointing a new manager.
With Stewart overseeing the day-to-day running of the Glaswegian outfit, the supporters are right to ask him questions.
- Martin’s win rate at Ibrox is 25 per cent.
- The Scottisman could become the shortest-serving permanent manager at Ibrox if he’s sacked before December.
- The Glaswegian outfit have suffered their worst league start since 1978.
Rangers should’ve sacked Martin after the Club Brugge defeat, with the 9-1 loss on aggregate their joint-worst in Europe.
The Gers fans were promised better times under the new ownership, but as things stand, the situation has arguably worsened.
Despite the almost £20million net spend after the previous transfer window, there’s nothing to show for it in G51.
