Why Nicolas Raskin has headed to airport amid major Rangers exit speculation
Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has not enjoyed the best of starts to the 2025/26 season.
Raskin was left out of Rangers’ starting 11 in the second leg against Club Brugge, but Russell Martin brought him on at half-time.
The Ibrox outfit lost the Champions League play-off second leg 6-0 on the night and 9-1 on aggregate, making it a baffling choice by the Gers boss.
Even in the league, the Belgium international has played the full 90 minutes just once in three games.

Nicolas Raskin headed to the airport to pick up family
Given how things have transpired over the last few weeks, Raskin has been linked with a Rangers exit.
West Ham, Wolves and Burnley are among a number of clubs keen on signing the 24-year-old ahead of the transfer deadline.
In the last 24 hours, images surfaced on social media of the Belgian heading to the airport.
- Raskin joined Gers from Standard Liege in 2023
- The midfielder was one of the Rangers’ best players last season
- Raskin is now a Belgium international, winning four caps in 2025
This undoubtedly fuelled transfer speculation as the deadline is on 1 September and the next 72 hours are key for players to make their move in order to avoid any last-minute drama on deadline.
However, Four Lads Had a Dream claimed on 29 August that he was just on his way to pick up his family.
There is nothing “untoward” about Raskin’s reason to head to the airport and that he even trained on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Celtic.
Rangers have to retain Nicolas Raskin’s services
Retaining Raskin is vital for Rangers, as the Belgian brings dynamism, tenacity and versatility to a squad reeling from a poor start.
His high pressing, ball-winning ability and knack for progressive passes make him a cornerstone in midfield, especially with Hamza Igamane’s exit and attacking inconsistencies.
Martin, under pressure to deliver, must harness Raskin’s work rate and playmaking to stabilise the team ahead of the Old Firm derby.
Failure to maximise Raskin’s potential risks further fan discontent and squanders a key asset in Rangers’ rebuild.
It remains to be seen if the Belgium international is handed a start against their arch rivals on Sunday.
