Expert shares verdict on Jayden Meghoma as Rangers transfer completed

Rangers have confirmed the signing of Brentford left-back Jayden Meghoma on loan.

The 19-year-old becomes the 10th signing of the summer for the Ibrox outfit, joining the likes of Joe Rothwell, Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga.

Russell Martin has worked with Meghoma before, and with Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte’s futures at Rangers uncertain, a new addition was needed in the position.

The ex-Southampton man will hope that the England under-19 international can make an instant impression in Scottish football.

Rangers signing Meghoma is a huge talent

Meghoma should slot in at Rangers, having already experienced how Martin likes to play and his managerial style.

Brace believes that the Gers have made a very astute addition with the Bees ace, but does not think there will be a permanent clause in the loan.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “I very much doubt there’ll be an option to buy in his loan as he is highly rated by the club.

“They reportedly spent £5m plus £5m in add-ons when he had just made four first-team appearances for Southampton.

“He’s a very talented left-back with a high ceiling, forward-thinking, athletic, aggressive in duels, has a good reading of the game, and is technically adept.

“He also has good ball carrying and retention qualities, and is a threat in the final third, particularly in crossing areas. All of these do have room for improvement; however, that is to be expected at 19.

“Whether he’ll fit Scottish football, I can’t say as I don’t watch it, but Rangers have signed a very talented player.”

Meghoma could be the answer for Rangers

The qualities that Brace identifies with Meghoma should make him a good fit for the Govan outfit.

Given that he has a previous relationship with Martin, that should help the transition into the new style of football that he will be asked to play.

The Light Blues desperately need a left-back, with both Yilmaz and Jefte seemingly set to depart before the transfer deadline, so it makes sense to bring in somebody who will already be comfortable with Martin’s demands.
