Rangers ready £2m Nobel Mendy transfer with triple exit now on cards at Ibrox

Rangers are rapidly closing in on the signing of Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy as their busy transfer window continues.

The Gers have already added nine new faces to their ranks since the start of the summer, and they are still being linked with further additions as Russell Martin aims to revamp the squad.

Rangers have already agreed personal terms with Mendy, but had been dealt a scare with the suggestion that he could instead opt to remain in Spain and sign for Rayo Vallecano.

However, the Govan outfit has made rapid progress over the last few days, and now appear to be firmly in the driving seat for the 20-year-old.

Mendy to sign until 2029 as three Rangers stars told they can leave

Rangers have taken a major step forward in their pursuit of Mendy and have been in exclusive talks with Real Betis over a deal.

The centre-back is keen to make the move to Ibrox, meaning the only stumbling block has been the two clubs’ ability to settle on a suitable transfer fee.

However, that issue has now been overcome, and it is understood that the Gers will pay around £2million for the enforcer, according to the Rangers Review.

The Senegalese star is set to sign a deal which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2029, while there is also the option to extend the agreement for a further season.

Mendy is thought to have had his heart set on Rangers, and could be on the verge of completing his move.

With his arrival seemingly now imminent, it is believed that the defensive trio of Ben Davies, Leon King and Clinton Nsiala have all been made surplus to requirements, and will be allowed to leave.

Martin needs left-back to complete defensive reconstruction

Rangers are also now having to prepare for the possibility that they could lose Jefte, with Brazilian side Palmeiras now understood to be in talks with the left-back.

That could create yet another issue for Martin that would need to be addressed as he continues to reconstruct the defence.

Three fresh faces have already been added to the backline, but the left side has been largely untouched so far.

If Jefte were to depart, that would leave the out-of-favour Ridvan Yilmaz as the only natural fit in the senior squad, and the experiment of playing Max Aarons on his wrong side has been hugely unsuccessful so far.

As a result, the Gers would undoubtedly be forced into the market once again.

The step towards securing Mendy’s arrival is certainly a positive one, but Martin may have yet more work to do before he is satisfied with the defence.
