Nobel Mendy makes transfer decision after Rangers agree personal terms
Rangers are reportedly keen on signing Real Betis centre-back Nobel Mendy ahead of Rayo Vallecano this summer.
Russell Martin remains keen on strengthening his defence before the transfer window closes to give his side the best chance of winning the SPFL.
Despite signing Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez and Max Aarons, Gers continue to be linked with new defenders.

Mendy appears set to join Vallecano
According to Sacha Tavolieri via X, the Ibrox outfit had already agreed on personal terms with the 20-year-old.
The Sky Sports journalist reported on 7 August that Mendy, who’s capable of playing as a left-back as well, had to decide between Rangers and Vallecano.
Club Brugge are also keen on signing the Senegalese defender, who appears set to leave.
However, Vallecano appear to have won the race to secure his services.
DAZN journalist Fran Campos Vazquez stated on 7 August that it’s taken for granted that he will end up at the Spanish club.

Rangers could have done with Mendy’s versatility at the back
Mendy’s versatility would have been a significant asset for Rangers, as the 20-year-old Real Betis defender can effectively play both centre-back and left-back.
His ability to cover multiple defensive roles would have provided tactical flexibility, particularly as a potential replacement for Ridvan Yilmaz, whose departure appears to be on the cards.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Betis Deportivo | 34 | – | 2 |
| Paris FC U19 | 29 | 1 | – |
| Paris FC B | 20 | 2 | – |
| Real Betis | 6 | – | – |
| Paris FC | 3 | – | – |
Mendy’s left-footedness, physicality at 6ft 2in and experience in La Liga, despite limited appearances, make him a promising option for Gers’ defensive depth, especially with their ambitions in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League qualifiers.
His adaptability could have stabilised the backline, offering cover and competition.
However, as Mendy is poised to join Rayo Vallecano, Rangers must now explore alternative targets to bolster their defence.
Options like Conor Coady were considered, but Gers need to act swiftly to secure a comparable versatile defender before the transfer window closes.
