Ferguson makes Dessers exit claim after what he’s been told by Rangers figures
Ibrox News presents the exclusive opinion of former Rangers player Derek Ferguson.
Rangers have been enjoying a spending spree for the ages during this summer’s transfer window.
Several new players have arrived at Ibrox, and it’s not even August.
This recruitment drive may mean that many of last season’s squad won’t be able to get a game during the forthcoming campaign.
Indeed, it’s been rumoured that many of them will be sold before the transfer window closes.
Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane have been linked with a move away from Ibrox all summer, but they still remain contracted to Rangers as the start of the season edges closer.

Ferguson shares what he’s been told about Dessers at Rangers
Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson believes both Dessers and Igamane have the talent to thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
However, in an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, he claimed that he’d prefer Dessers to remain if he had to choose one player to stay, with the former Rangers player hearing positive things behind the scenes.
He said: “They’re two very talented boys. Dessers’ stats were fantastic last season and Igamane will only get better, so of course you’d like them at the club.
“But they have to be happy as well. I’ve spoken to a number of people at the club and they all rave about Dessers’ attitude as a player – it’s second to none.
“I’m more in the dark with Igamane, and I don’t know what it is, but I get the feeling he wants to ply his trade elsewhere. Of the two of them, I’d like to keep Dessers.”

Rangers are in a good position to sell stars at the right price
It’s an interesting situation with Dessers and Igamane because both performed reasonably well for Rangers last season.
This summer, Russell Martin has been recruited and seemingly been told that he’ll need to sell a star player if he wants to spend big.
And that’s what led to the rumours of Dessers and Igamane being sold.
Dessers | Igamane | |
Signed | July 2023 | July 2024 |
Appearances | 47 | 109 |
Goals | 16 | 51 |
Dessers has been linked with a move to AEK Athens, while Turkish side Feyenoord are the latest club to show interest in Igamane.
The good news is that Rangers are in a good position to sell. Both players are in good form. Their contracts aren’t running out soon. This will allow Rangers to bide their time and get the best possible transfer fee.
If that’s not during this transfer window, so be it. Both Dessers and Igamane could still prove valuable to Rangers moving forward.
