Robin Propper stuck in compensation talks ahead of Rangers exit

Russell Martin is learning heaps about his Rangers side in pre-season as the start of their competitive campaign looms large.

Rangers have drawn with Club Brugge and Barnsley, as Martin has handed opportunities to a host of players.

The Ibrox club will face Panathinaikos over two legs in the second round of qualifying for the Champions League.

Robin Propper may not be a Gers player by the time they play, and there has been a significant update on his future.

Propper in negotiations with Rangers amid exit talk

Propper has been called out for his lack of Rangers quality and has been tipped to leave the Bears this summer.

Eredivisie side FC Twente have been linked with a move for Propper, although their sporting director has said they are not in a position to spend £5million or more for a player.

However, he remains confident that the Dutch club can strike a deal of some kind for the centre back.

Last season, the 31-year-old made 27 Scottish Premiership starts for the Ibrox club, with 22 of those coming as starts.

Now, Tubantia.nl (14 July) is wondering just when Propper will show up in the Netherlands.

The Dutch outlet states that the defender and his management are in negotiations with Rangers and that the club want to get rid of him.

However, the 31-year-old still has a running contract, so that has to be compensated somehow; that is the point of the talks.

Martin wise to move Propper on?

Rangers currently have a surplus of defenders, and Propper is likely to have fallen down the pecking order under Martin.

With that in mind, now appears to be the right time to sell the Dutchman and garner some additional funds.

The Gers have already signed Emmanuel Fernandez and Nasser Djiga at centre back, while Ben Davies has returned from loan.

Add John Souttar to the mix, and Martin has several options to choose from ahead of the new season.

Rangers only signed Propper from Twente last summer for a reported £1.5million, but the Glasgow club could make a little profit on the defender.

After a tough start to pre-season, it seems that Propper’s future at Ibrox is coming to an end already.
