Rangers want Djeidi Gassama transfer as ‘Sheffield Wednesday raid on cards’

Sheffield Wednesday forward Djeidi Gassama is wanted by Russell Martin at Rangers this transfer window.

The 21-year-old signed for the EFL Championship outfit in 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain and has become somewhat of a fan favourite at Hillsborough.

Martin could lose Hamza Igamane to LOSC Lille in the coming weeks, and the Gers will undoubtedly need to bolster their front line if that happens.

Cyriel Dessers could also leave Ibrox soon, and the Light Blues are now looking to raid the Owls for attacking reinforcements.

Dejphon Chansiri needs funds as Rangers very keen on Gassama transfer

Gassama is attracting interest from several teams this summer, including the Gers, according to The Star.

The news outlet reports (8 July) that Light Blues are very keen on the in-demand left winger, who several EFL Championship clubs are keeping an eye on.

It’s been claimed that while the French youngster is happy at Sheffield Wednesday, with one year left on his contract and Dejphon Chansiri’s need for income at Hillsborough, they could consider offers for the young forward.

There are several other players at the Owls apart from the 21-year-old who are being monitored by other teams, and it remains to be seen what the Thai owner will do amid financial difficulties in S6.

Kevin Thelwell must focus on attacking transfers at Ibrox now

Thelo Aasgaard’s arrival at Ibrox from Luton Town has bolstered the Gers’ midfield ahead of next season, with Joe Rothwell also being signed recently.

Kevin Thelwell has also been trying to ensure Martin has enough options in the backline in the upcoming campaign, with Conor Coady and Nasser Djiga’s transfers being worked on.

Former Peterborough United centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez and Bournemouth loanee Max Aarons will give the Scottish manager much-needed depth in defence.

Rangers should now focus on bolstering their attack after Ianis Hagi and Vaclav Cerny’s exits.

Igamane and Dessers’ potential departure will leave Thelwell with a lot of work to do as he hopes to build a competitive team for Martin.

Gassama impressed many with his performances at Sheffield Wednesday last season, and his situation will be one to watch closely.
