Rangers transfer clearout beckons as Propper and Dowell ‘available to leave’

Rangers could potentially be set for a massive transfer clearout soon, starting with Robin Propper and Kieran Dowell.

The ex-FC Twente star’s future at Ibrox is uncertain, with the Eredivisie outfit hoping for his return this summer.

Dowell is attracting interest from Birmingham City after impressing for the League One Champions on loan last season.

Russell Martin saw the centre-back and the playmaker feature against Club Brugge at home on 6 July in the Glaswegian outfit’s first pre-season friendly under the new manager, and now a host of players may have no future in G51.

Propper and Dowell transfers on cards as Martin assesses squad

Propper and Dowell should be among the several players immediately available to leave this summer, Four Lads says.

Steven Clifford feels the duo lack the quality to feature for Martin at Ibrox next season after struggling against Brugge.

Four Lads is glad that the Scottish manager got a glimpse of some of the players who seemingly have no future at the Gers against the Belgian outfit and feels they won’t make it in Glasgow.

Clifford wrote in The Rangers Review (8 July): “Let’s just call it outright, there are several players in this squad who won’t cut it at Rangers, now or in the future. It doesn’t matter who the manager is – Martin or Pep Guardiola – those players won’t make it here.

“Martin seeing that for himself is a positive because I’d rather that came now than in two weeks as Panathinaikos come calling. Propper, Dowell and several others lack quality and are immediately available to leave.”

Kevin Thelwell to place Propper and Dowell on transfer list

Leicester City centre-back Conor Coady is a concrete target for the Gers this summer, and his arrival will arguably mean Propper’s departure.

The Light Blues should allow the Dutch defender to re-join Twente once they bolster their backline with the Englishman and possibly Wolves’ Nasser Djiga.

Kevin Thelwell is also working on reinforcing the Bears’ attack, with Sheffield Wednesday forward Djeidi Gassama a target, and Dowell may be allowed to leave soon.

Rangers will arguably need new centre-forwards soon, as Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers could be on their way out.

The Gers have bolstered their midfield with Joe Rothwell and Thelo Aasgaard, but it remains to be seen whether Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande leave.

Martin will hope to have a competitive squad at his disposal next season to compete with Celtic, and Thelwell should look to generate more funds from outgoing transfers to make quality reinforcements.
