Rothwell turns down major offers in breaking Rangers transfer news

Rangers have been chasing a new midfielder this summer after Russell Martin’s arrival, and Roe Rothwell’s name has now emerged.

Rothwell has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox after he returned to Bournemouth.

The centre-midfielder spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Leeds United, where he helped the Yorkshire club return to the Premier League.

Now, after impressing in the Championship, the 30-year-old is not short on offers going into the new season.

Rothwell set to join Rangers

With Nico Raskin’s future at Rangers uncertain, Martin has been chasing a new midfielder.

Now, it appears that the manager may have found his new man, as reports now indicate that the Gers are set to sign Rothwell.

According to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam via X (1 July), Rangers have agreed a deal with Bournemouth to sign the 30-year-old.

While the fee is undisclosed, the fact that Rothwell was entering the final year of his contract may make the deal a bit of a bargain.

On top of this, the midfielder reportedly had offers from La Liga, but opted to move to Ibrox instead.

Rothwell is a genius signing from Rangers

There is no doubt that if Martin is able to get this signing over the line, it will be a fantastic addition for Rangers.

The midfielder has tons of experience and has only got better with age.

In his last two seasons, he has overseen promotions at both Southampton and Leeds United while on loan.

Before this, he helped keep Bournemouth in the Premier League before he fell out of favour under Andoni Iraola.

Now, Rangers will be looking to harness this experience immediately for their upcoming qualifiers in the Champions League later this month.

The game against Panathinaikos is massive, and the 30-year-old’s addition will no doubt be a big boost.

Hopefully the deal will become official as soon as possible to allow Rothwell to participate in some pre-season fixtures before this tie comes around.
