Joe Rothwell close to ‘incredible’ Rangers transfer under 49ers Enterprises

Rangers look set to complete a deal for Joe Rothwell.

The Englishman spent last season on loan with fellow 49ers Enterprises outfit Leeds United, where he helped them earn promotion to the Premier League.

Now the Gers could be set to make the most of their newfound link to the Elland Road club to land the midfielder themselves this summer.

This has now seen a deal progress with the Bournemouth man edging closer to a move to Ibrox, ready for the Scottish Premiership season.

Joe Rothwell could join Rangers after Leeds loan

There is no doubt that the Light Blues are in need of reinforcements moving into the new season up against Celtic in what should hopefully be a title race.

As a result, Russell Martin will be keen to build a squad that is capable of making a fight throughout the entire campaign in G51.

This has seen him turn to a familiar face in the shape of the 30-year-old who performed so well under him in his days at Southampton.

The Rangers Review reported on 1 July that Rangers are closing in on a deal for Rothwell after his loan with Leeds came to an end.

After earning promotion at Elland Road last campaign, it will certainly represent a bold move for the midfielder to switch from one 49ers club to another this summer.

It is fair to say that this would go down well with supporters, with Leeds reporter Graham Smyth describing the deal as an “incredible signing for Rangers” via X (1 July).

Rothwell set to complete Rangers move

There can be no complaints with signing a player of such experience who can come in and make an immediate impact on the Gers.

As it stands, the Englishman should be able to come in and command a starting role, especially if Nico Raskin is to leave Ibrox for Aston Villa or elsewhere.

This could prove to be excellent for the likes of Connor Barron and Lyall Cameron, who can now learn from a perfect role model next campaign.

It will be interesting to see if this deal goes through and whether it will be a permanent switch or just a straight loan, just as it was in Yorkshire last time out.
