Rangers recently confirmed the arrival of Lyall Cameron on a free transfer from Dundee, but he has already suffered a setback.

Cameron signed a pre-agreement to join Rangers in February, and the midfielder arrives as a proven option to add more quality to the squad.

Russell Martin is beginning preparations for pre-season. However, with plenty of work to do in the transfer market, he may have to endure a tough start.

Rangers will hope to have a fully fit squad, with a lot of their transfers completed by the time they face Club Brugge in their first friendly on 6 July, but there is already a frustrating issue.

Rangers to be without Cameron for the start of pre-season

Cameron has now been handed a fresh injury blow, and while it is not expected to be a serious one, it will be a disruptive one for his start to life at Rangers.

The Daily Record (22 June) have now reported that Cameron has picked up a minor calf injury, which will keep him sidelined when Rangers return to pre-season training.

Cameron is expected to spend the next week with Rangers' physios working towards a speedy recovery, with the injury coming as a result of additional training he undertook in recent months.

The 22-year-old had an outstanding season last time out, scoring 14 times and providing nine assists in 41 games across all competitions.

Martin needs a fast pre-season start

Martin is already under pressure to deliver results quickly after arriving to a negative reception from the Rangers fanbase, and having to deal with injuries early on is far from ideal.

Rangers are also set to clear out their squad, and Martin will hope that several sales can be completed before pre-season training begins.

Cameron will join as an option in midfield to add output to the middle of the park, and he is a very welcome addition as Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande have both been linked with exits.

Rangers will face Club Brugge and Middlesbrough at Ibrox to kick off their pre-season campaign at the start of July.
