Why Kwame Poku rejected Rangers transfer despite ‘big-money offer’

Rangers have officially missed out on target Kwame Poku as his moved to QPR is confirmed.

The 23-year-old midfielder impressed during his time at Peterborough and was out of contract this summer.

Therefore, Rangers were eyeing a move for Poku to upgrade their squad this summer.

However, Poku has now chosen to sign for QPR, with the transfer becoming official on Saturday.

Poku preferred move to London over Glasgow

Questions have no doubt been raised on how QPR managed to beat Rangers to Poku.

While the English pyramid is no doubt attractive, the Gers are one of the biggest clubs in the UK and are in Europe this season.

Now, the Daily Record (28 June) has revealed why the midfielder opted to stay in England.

The outlet believed that Rangers offered terms of £19,200-a-week to Poku, with these wages then matched by QPR.

The 23-year-old then decided he wanted to move to London to be closer to his family rather than to head to Scotland.

While this is no doubt a loss for Rangers, it seems that the location was key for Poku when making his final decision.

Rangers need midfielder reinforcements

Now that signing Poku is out of the question, Rangers must quickly move on to other targets.

The future of Nico Raskin at Rangers is still speculated upon, and if the Belgian leaves, it would no doubt leave the Gers short in this position.

A new midfielder could well prove to be the difference between silverware and a trophy-less season this campaign, and it needs to be a priority for Martin.

With still two months left of the window, ther Gers have plenty of time to find a new target.

Hopefully, over the coming weeks, new stars in this position will be found, and this time, Rangers ensure that they get the deal over the line before another team swoops in.
