Sky Sports Germany update has big knock-on effect on Rangers new manager hire

Rangers could potentially be affected in their managerial search at Ibrox after an update from Sky Sports Germany.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have tasked Gretar Steinsson with looking for the Gers’ next permanent manager.

Several names have been linked with the Light Blues, including Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti.

The Italian coach seems to be a man in demand, with interest from Como also emerging in him, and some fresh developments from Germany may have knock-on effects on the Glaswegian outfit.

Cesc Fabregas interest from Bayer Leverkusen may affect Rangers approach for Ancelotti

Bayer Leverkusen have made Como head coach Cesc Fabregas their top candidate to replace Xabi Alonso, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sport Germany journalist revealed on X (16 May) that while the Bundesliga club’s approach for the former Arsenal star is proving complicated, he hasn’t personally turned them down yet.

Should Fabregas leave, Como have identified Ancelotti as their priority target, which could potentially leave the Gers fighting for his signature.

If the Serie A outfit do lose the ex-Chelsea midfielder, the Light Blues will arguably be worried about their chances of bringing Madrid’s assistant coach to Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises must decide new manager appointment at Ibrox soon

Fans have evidently grown weary of all the noise coming out of the Glaswegian outfit as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ takeover drags on.

Barry Ferguson surely would like to continue at Ibrox, but it doesn’t look like that will happen as the prospective new owners may have decided to take a different approach.

The former Scotland international hasn’t had the best domestic records since taking over as interim manager, but he has managed to beat Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho.

If Rangers do want Ancelotti, they shouldn’t hang around any longer, as it’s known that he’ll leave Madrid at the end of the season.

Los Blancos have nothing left to play for, with Barcelona securing the La Liga title, and there shouldn’t be anything holding the Gers back.

If the prospective new owners continue to delay the appointment of a new permanent manager, they will only lose their preferred targets.

Como may be a more enticing project for Ancelotti as they’re in his home country and have made impressive progress in recent seasons.
