Rangers ‘surprise’ emerges after news on manager seriously considered at Ibrox

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are looking for a new Rangers manager, and one candidate has already been seriously considered.

The US consortium, close to completing their takeover of the Gers, are searching for a permanent manager to replace the potentially outgoing Barry Ferguson.

The Gers icon took over as interim manager from Philippe Clement but may be leaving at the end of the season.

Davide Ancelotti is expected to depart Real Madrid soon and has been one of the candidates linked with a move to the Light Blues.

Ancelotti to be part of Brazil staff as Rangers wanted him

It’s surprising to see how quickly Ancelotti has gone out of the running for the job at the Glaswegian outfit, Scott McDermott says.

In recent weeks, it had been suggested that the 35-year-old coach could make a switch from Santiago Bernabeu to Ibrox, but he may join his father, Carlo, who’s set to be the next Brazil manager.

McDermott revealed that the Real Madrid assistant manager was being seriously considered at Ibrox, but he could potentially delay his club career.

Speaking on Hotline Live (16 May), the Scottish journalist said: “Quite surprised this morning at how quick that’s happened. It’s clear they had Ancelotti quite high up on their wanted list. We’re pretty certain they made contact with Ancelotti, and there was serious interest there.

“With his dad leaving Real Madrid, he was seriously considering branching out and becoming a manager in his own right.

“Just how quick it seems to have happened that he’s decided now to follow Carlo into the Brazil job for the World Cup and almost delay his club career. It’s quite surprising.”

Ibrox managerial saga to drag on

Ancelotti may yet make his way to Ibrox as the Italian coach could potentially just join Carlo as his assistant at Brazil for their June fixtures.

It will be interesting to see how the saga unfolds as fans eagerly wait for what the takeover will bring to the Glaswegian outfit.

Cavenagh and the 49ers have tasked Gretar Steinsson with looking for a new head coach, and it remains to be seen who that will be.

Ferguson might fancy his chances at Rangers if the managerial search drags on and the prospective new owners can’t agree terms with someone before the end of the season.

The Gers have to prepare for the upcoming transfer window and return to pre-season training at the end of June, which leaves the US consortium with little time to make some crucial decisions.

At the end of July, the Light Blues have the Champions League qualifiers to contend with, and must be in a stable state before then.

Uncertain times are ahead at G51, and fans are just waiting for next season to start already.
