Rangers takeover ‘just about done’ after new manager developments

Rangers are set for a transformational summer, as they await the 49ers Enterprises takeover to go through at Ibrox.

Once the huge deal at Rangers is confirmed, things are expected to ramp up at Ibrox in preparation for the new campaign.

With Barry Ferguson currently at the helm on an interim basis until the end of the season, a new appointment is expected at Ibrox.

The new owners will then have all eyes on the transfer window, with the hope of strengthening the squad before the season is back underway.

Ally McCoist moots takeover after new Rangers update

There has been plenty of debate surrounding the 49ers and which direction they would go in when it comes to management.

Ferguson was suggested by some as a potential permanent appointment after an impressive Europa League run to the quarter-finals.

However, with just one win at Ibrox since his tenure started, not everyone is convinced by whether he has done enough to earn the role full-time.

Reports have emerged that Davide Ancelotti is now the favourite for the job, as he prepares to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

When discussing the potential appointment live on talkSPORT (14 May, 7:25 am), Ally McCoist admitted that he sees this as an indicator of the takeover being close.

He said: “Now, the interesting thing about this potential appointment with Davide Ancelotti. What it would tell me, arguably more importantly, is that the takeover’s just about done. Because they’re not going to go and appoint somebody if the takeover’s not done, so I think we’re in agreement.

“But, my point is this, the club will be in new hands before a new manager is appointed because it just follows and makes sense that a new appointment is going to be the new owners’ appointment.

“So, that would suggest to me that the ownership deal is just about done.”

Ancelotti could be a risk for Rangers

The attraction of Ancelotti for Rangers is certainly clear.

With him and his father leaving Madrid, and Carlo making the move to Brazil, it seems to be the time his son is ready to take his own steps into the world of management.

Given he has experience at the top end of football, working with big budgets to achieve huge ambitions, his experience could be great for the Gers, who are looking towards the future with the hope of more success.

However, the Light Blues want to hit the ground running once the takeover is completed and therefore, going for someone with no experience on his own yet, could be a big risk.
