Jim White names manager now in frame to be next Rangers boss for the Americans

Rangers will have a decision to make on their managerial situation once Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises complete their takeover.

Barry Ferguson was appointed interim manager of the Light Blues after Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties.

In recent weeks, Ferguson has staked his claim at Ibrox after beating Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers.

The former Scotland international has steered the Bears into the quarter-finals of the Europa League where they will face Athletic Club.

San Francisco 49ers deliberate Rangers managerial future as Ferguson in the frame

Ferguson may be in the frame to become the next permanent Rangers manager, Jim Whites says.

The veteran sports presenter believes the former Scotland international could potentially be in the conversations to take charge of the Gers next season after triumphs over Fenerbahce and Celtic.

White believes that with the 49ers currently deliberating on their next head coach, Ferguson could possibly be a part of their thinking.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (25 March), the talkSPORT host said: “Winning at Celtic Park and putting Mourinho and Fenerbahce out of the Europa League. So yeah, I think he has to be in the conversation.

“When the 49ers are deliberating, as they will be now, they will be getting their ducks in a row at the moment as to who they want and how they’re going to go about it. And I think Barry [Ferguson] has got to be a name in the frame, of course. And he’s a fan favourite.”

Ibrox needs stability with Ferguson continuity

If given the opportunity, Ferguson will undoubtedly want to continue at Rangers beyond the current campaign.

The 47-year-old head coach may not have the best of managerial careers, but he has brought fresh energy to the Light Blues.

With the Gers icon in charge, the players have stepped up in recent matches, and the passion on the sidelines has seeped into the team.

Ferguson is accompanied by Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann in the Rangers dugout, all former players who know what it means to play for the Glaswegian outfit.

The interim boss has changed the Bears’ setup, playing five defenders and not being afraid to drop those underperforming.

Ianis Hagi had found his way back into the starting lineup under Clement but has mainly been used as a substitute in recent matches.

Hamza Igamane has also had to work harder for his opportunities, with Cyriel Dessers again establishing himself as the first-choice striker.

After years of mismanagement at Rangers, Ferguson’s continuity beyond the current campaign may be needed to bring stability back to the Glaswegian outfit.
