Rangers chief announces ‘incredible’ Ibrox goodbye in heartfelt LinkedIn post

Rangers are undergoing major changes behind the scenes and another significant decision has now been made at Ibrox.

The Gers are in a transition era until the end of the season following the dismissal of Philippe Clement, with former club captain Barry Ferguson currently in charge of the club on a temporary basis.

It is currently unclear whether or not Ferguson will get the role on a permanent basis, but a lot of that could be down to the expected 49ers takeover.

The potential takeover is providing a lot of excitement around Ibrox which is much-needed after the dreadful season Rangers fans have had to endure, but there has been more backroom chaos this week.

Rangers are continuing to change their coaching team

Another major change has now taken place within the coaching department as the club’s head of academy football has quit, which he announced via LinkedIn.

Zuab Amirian was hired during the overhaul that Clement oversaw and had been the head of technical development at OH Leuven before moving to Scotland.

Amirain was the lead coach at Rangers for all age groups, working across the academy in a hands-on role, while also being responsible for developing the youth coaches.

He said: “The end of an incredible journey as Head of Academy Football at Rangers, a true rollercoaster of growth, challenges, and unforgettable moments. From day one, I was surrounded by great people in a beautiful club, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the academy.

“This experience has developed me both professionally and personally, pushing me to learn, adapt, and evolve.

“As one chapter closes, new opportunities arise, and I’m excited for what’s next. Growth happens outside the comfort zone, and I’m looking forward to embracing the challenges ahead with the same passion and dedication.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who was part of this journey. See you on the next one “

This is the latest in a series of departures that have taken place this year, as Creag Robertson left his role as head of football operations in October last year, while the summer academy director, Zeb Jacobs, also departed for Feyenoord.

Rangers could see a familiar face return

Ferguson has been showcasing that he might have what it takes to lead Rangers permanently with some impressive results, but the Scottish giants could turn their attention to ex-manager instead.

While the likes of Russell Martin, Rafael Benitez, and even Jose Mourinho are apparently interested in the role, Steven Gerrard is emerging as Rangers’ lead candidate.

Gerrard could end up making a sensational return to Rangers following his spell coaching in Saudi Arabia, which would certainly be a major appointment, fitting to go alongside a takeover.
