Barry Ferguson ‘CV should be considered’ by Americans at Rangers
Barry Ferguson may have something other candidates don’t when the prospective new Rangers owners sit down to appoint a new manager.
The Gers icon was appointed interim manager when Patrick Stewart sacked Philippe Clement after inconsistent domestic displays.
Ferguson has strengthened his claim at Ibrox after beating Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers in a matter of weeks.
The Light Blues beat Celtic 3-2 at Parkhead on Sunday (16 March), which has led to suggestions of the interim boss getting the job permanently.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises should consider Ferguson history at Rangers
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises should consider Ferguson’s history at Rangers when appointing a new manager, Paul Forsyth, Gary Keown and Ryan Gallacher write in the Daily Mail.
The journalists argue in the news outlet (20 March) that the former Scotland international’s two spells at the Bears as player and captain is something not many people can boast.
With the US consortium in talks to take over at Ibrox, they “would be wise” not to forget the 47-year-old’s history with the Glaswegian outfit when they sit down to decide on a new head coach.
Competition (2024/25) | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Scottish Premiership | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
Europa League | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Forsyth, Keown and Gallacher wrote: “Of the available candidates, nobody else has on his CV two spells as a Rangers player and captain, with five league titles to show for it.
“That might not be important in the lower divisions, where management is a very different job, but it is important at Ibrox.
“The new owners would be wise not to forget that when they sit down to make a permanent choice in the summer.”

The former Scotland international’s managerial stint in the past hasn’t been impressive, but maybe the Glaswegian outfit is the right first for him due to his history there.
Once Cavernagh and Paraag Marathe make their way to Ibrox, expectations will be high to compete with Celtic in the upcoming campaign.
The Gers are several points behind their arch-rivals in the Scottish Premiership and arguably need a manager who understands the importance of closing that gap.
While Ferguson may not have the most flashy CV as a manager, his stint at the Light Blues as a player can’t be understated while searching for a new permanent manager.
