Vaclav Cerny incident ‘ridiculous’ at Rangers as Police Scotland questioned

Simon Jordan has slammed Police Scotland for getting involved after Vaclav Cerny sprayed water on Celtic fans as Rangers won the Old Firm derby.

The Czech international started for the Gers as they beat Breandan Rodgers’ stream 3-2 at Parkhead on Sunday (16 March) after a late goal from Hamza Igamane.

Cerny was seen spraying Celtic fans with water during the celebrations after the Moroccan striker’s goal, which could potentially lead to an extended ban.

Police Scotland are now probing the incident at Parkhead, but their involvement hasn’t gone down well with some.

Jordan and Danny Murphy blast Police Scotland probing Cerny at Rangers

Danny Murphy slammed the police for getting involved after Cerny’s incident in the Old Firm derby.

The former Liverpool midfielder believes it’s ridiculous for the incident to be probed by the authorities.

Jordan questioned what the Czech international could be charged with and felt this could set a precedent every time a player “over-celebrates”

Speaking on talkSPORT (19 March, 10:26), Murphy said: “That’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.”

Jordan added: “What are you going to charge [Cerny] with? Over-celebrating? So every time a player now over-celebrates and runs towards the opposition fans you’re going to potentially have the police involved.

“I know they fired some water. He can turn around and say, “I was firing in the air in celebration”, “it wasn’t particularly aimed at Celtic fans”, “there’s no intent in my actions”. I’m not sure what the police are going to charge him with.”

Nedim Bajrami resurgence on cards after Cerny ban at Ibrox

Nedim Bajrami has struggled for minutes at Rangers this season after signing from Sassuolo last summer.

The 26-year-old has continued to be on the periphery of the squad despite the change in manager.

Barry Ferguson has changed the system at Ibrox, which has seen him beat Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers in a matter of weeks after being appointed interim boss.

The former Scotland international has relied on Cerny as one of his leading attacking threats, and the Wolfsburg loanee hasn’t disappointed.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Scottish FA come down hard on the Czech forward for his actions at Parkhead, and a potential ban could pose significant issues for Ferguson.

Ianis Hagi is another player who hasn’t been afforded regular game time since the interim manager’s arrival.

Bajrami could possibly be fighting with the Romanian star for a place in the starting lineup if Cerny is suspended for a considerable period.

The situation will be one to keep an eye on, and fans will hope that the Czech international doesn’t face a lengthy ban.
