Todd Cantwell sends message to James Tavernier after Clement sack at Rangers
Todd Cantwell could not resist reaching out to James Tavernier after Rangers sacked Philippe Clement on Sunday.
Rangers announced their decision to sack Clement through a press release on 23 February in the aftermath of a humiliating 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat against St. Mirren in front of the fans at Ibrox.
With a trip to Kilmarnock coming up on Wednesday (26 February), the Glasgow giants have acted quickly to appoint Barry Ferguson as their head coach until the end of the season.
Clement made a final visit to Auchenhowie on Monday (24 February), but it is evident that the Light Blues have moved on from the Belgian, although that is not true for everyone.

Cantwell aims ‘Talibans’ dig at Clement
Cantwell’s gripe with Clement needs no introduction as he downed tools to force his way out of the 50-year-old’s team in the summer and he seemingly took a cheeky dig at the manager after he was fired from his job, posting a picture of him listening to the song Talibans by Byron Messia on Instagram on Monday.
The Blackburn attacker also attached a message to former Gers teammate Tavernier, suggesting that he was also not pleased with Clement’s management.
“Sun’s out, so is our tune”, Cantwell wrote along with a laughing emoji, tagging Tavernier in the process.

Rangers must ignore Cantwell
It is no surprise that Cantwell is happy to see Clement being shown the doors at Rangers.
It is evident that the pair did not share a good relationship during their time together at Ibrox, with the former Monaco boss fuming at the Englishman and Danilo for a goal celebration against Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League on one occasion.
Player | Matches | Minutes | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards |
Cantwell | 36 | 2224′ | 8 | 6 | 7 |
Tavernier | 81 | 6938′ | 22 | 21 | 8 |
However, it will be interesting to see what Tavernier feels about his former manager, who stuck by the captain even during a poor run of form earlier this season.
While the right-back has remained coy on Clement’s exit, it is interesting that Cantwell has tagged him in his latest Instagram story.
There is enough reason to believe Cantwell and Tavernier have remained in touch since the former’s transfer in the summer.
