Todd Cantwell hinted at returning to Rangers in the future on Wednesday and it is embarrassing, to say the least.

The 26-year-old's deadline day departure from Ibrox which saw him join Blackburn Rovers for £500,000 last summer was a saga of its own [The Athletic] as he burnt bridges with the Gers faithful.

However, in an Instagram story on 20 November, the attacker expressed his admiration for the "special club" and desire to maybe play for them again one day.

Todd Cantwell forced his way out of Rangers in the summer

This is surprising and, more importantly, embarrassing for someone who forced his way out of the club.

Cantwell was an important player for the Light Blues under Michael Beale but seemed a different man after Philippe Clement's arrival in October 2023.

The former Norwich star asked to leave the club twice in the summer [Sky Sports] and eventually downed tools to get what he wanted [Scottish Daily Mail], making the fans turn against him in the process.

He did not feature in any of Rangers' first six games of the season despite being at Ibrox as he refused to play.

Cantwell seemingly took a swipe at Gers fans last month, stressing the need for a player to be loved by the supporters.

However, going by his latest social media activity, the Englishman is keen to make amends. This is also not the first time he has done that as he issued a diplomatic statement about his Ibrox exit in September.

It's time to move on.
