Simon Jordan hits out at Philippe Clement sack questions from Rangers
Simon Jordan was left scratching his head as Jim White questioned a Rangers fan over the future of Philippe Clement at Ibrox.
The Gers head coach has come under heavy fire this campaign with large sections of the Ibrox support wanting the Belgian out.
This reached its boiling point with the Light Blues’ Scottish Cup defeat against Queens Park which was the ultimate humiliation for Clement.
It is fortunate for the former Monaco boss that his side was able to secure a much-needed win against Hearts at Tynecastle Park.
With that being said, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has backed the manager for certain positivity he’s seen in G51 this campaign.
Simon Jordan backs Philippe Clement after Rangers Europa League progress
An away defeat at Hearts could have been the final straw for Clement, regardless of a positive spell in the Europa League this campaign.
Wins against the likes of Nice and USG alongside a positive draw against Premier League side Tottenham have been memorable and Jordan believes the manager deserves credit.
Responding to a Rangers fan who was asked if the Belgian should face the sack live on talkSPORT (19 February), he said: “You must be pleased though.
“You’ve qualified in the automatic promotion spots of the Europa League with a litany of teams beneath you that one could consider to be very much better financially healed.
“You’ve just beaten Celtic 3-0 a month ago, there must be feelings that a little bit more money for Clement might give him a better opportunity.”
Philippe Clement may be underappreciated at Rangers
It is hard to judge sometimes how successful a manager has been at Ibrox given how unrelenting Celtic have been in their Scottish Premiership pursuit.
Clement’s side currently sit 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals and although that can be put down to Brendan Rodgers’ successes, most of that blame has to fall on the Light Blues’ head coach.
It isn’t as if he didn’t have any money to spend in the summer and the away form in recent months has been nothing short of embarrassing.
Nedim Bajrami came in for a multi-million-pound fee but isn’t necessarily better than anyone else in his position already available in Govan.
Robin Propper has also represented an overspend and with that being said, the money that is spent needs to be utilised better.
Jordan is right that Clement has had some positive moments but in the same breath, he has had money to spend so giving him more to potentially waste would represent a huge risk.
