Rangers takeover: David Edgar reacts instantly to bombshell news at Ibrox

Rangers became the subject of bombshell takeover news at Ibrox on Wednesday out of nowhere and David Edgar has already chimed in.

The Record reported on 19 February that 49ers Enterprises are in talks over buying Rangers, with talks that started before January already at an advanced stage.

Paraag Marathe and Co want to acquire enough shares to become the single biggest shareholder at Ibrox, so that they can demand seats in the boardroom and take control of the club.

The Gers, meanwhile, would benefit from a massive cash injection that would allow them to fund a spending spree in the summer transfer window.

David Edgar in dreamland after takeover news

David Edgar of the Heart & Hand podcast has no information about the authenticity of the news, but has admitted that he is already dreaming about the proposed takeover coming to fruition.

He insisted that he would remain optimistic about the 49ers Enterprises buying the Scottish Premiership giants unless reliable journalist Chris Jack pours cold water on it.

“Don’t know if the takeover talk is true but will dream it is till Chris Jack says not to”, Edgar wrote on X (19 February).

It is worth noting that it was Keith Jackson who broke the news about Marathe and Co holding talks over buying Rangers for the Record.

Meanwhile, Edgar stressed the need for the Gers to have a “new dynamic leadership” in another post.

“It’s definitely time for Rangers to get new dynamic leadership”, the Heart & Hand podcast X handle read.

“If it’s this, great. If not I hope it indicates we are open to it at least.”

49ers Enterprises face Rangers complication

With discussions over a Marathe-led takeover said to be an advanced stage, one would hope it goes through without any hiccups.

However, the financial arm of the San Francisco 49ers face a major complication in their pursuit of buying the Glasgow giants.

The shares are currently split between the likes of Dave King, Douglas Park, George Taylor, John Bennett and Stuart Gibson.

That means all the said parties would have to agree to sell their shares to allow the 49ers to become the single biggest shareholder at Ibrox.

It remains to be seen if the United States-led consortium will still be interested in investing in Rangers if they cannot acquire majority control.

Meanwhile, the Bears may once again be able to compete with Celtic financially if the proposed takeover materialises as they would benefit from a major cash injection.

For the time being, every Rangers fan will be dreaming as Edgar is doing.
