Rangers news: Claim emerges on Lawrence Shankland summer transfer

Rangers secured a pre-contract agreement for Lyall Cameron and Derek Ferguson can see them make yet another similar signing.

The transfer window ended in a disappointing manner for the Ibrox outfit as they only managed to make one first-team signing.

Rafael Fernandes, a centre-back, joined Gers on loan as injuries forced the club to bring in a new defender.

Rangers may look to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window

Ferguson is of the opinion that the club’s interest in Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is far from over.

The Scotland international’s deal at Hearts runs out at the end of the season and he’s not expected to sign an extension.

“I’ve got a sneaky wee feeling [Rangers’ interest in Shankland is not dead],” he said on Open Goal.

“I like Shankland. Dessers is what he is, you don’t know what you are going to get.

“I would take Shankland in a minute. You’re gonna get the captain of Hearts at Rangers for hee-haw. Absolutely [I’d sign Shankland].”

Shankland has been linked with a move to Ibrox for a while and with a striker likely to be a priority option in the summer, he may still end up joining the club.

Cyriel Dessers may end up leaving if Lawrence Shankland joins Rangers

Cyriel Dessers was someone who was linked with an exit all through the January transfer window (Complete Sports).

Poor performances in front of goal saw falling down the pecking order at Ibrox and a departure appeared to be on the cards for the Nigerian.

However, he ended up staying put at the club and that means their pursuit for a new striker could be pushed to the summer.

Shankland would not accept being the third or fourth choice as he would want to play regularly if he joins Rangers.

Hamza Igamane currently is the go to option but with the interest shown in him, it remains to be seen if he ends up staying or leaving in the summer.

Philippe Clement undoubtedly will want a quality striker to lead the line next season and it remains to be seen if he thinks Shankland is the answer.

His performances this season suggest otherwise, but signing him on a free transfer reduces the risk for the Ibrox outfit.

He is also an upgrade on Dessers and that’s something fans will also take into consideration before voicing their opinion on his potential arrival.
