Lille defender Rafael Fernandes has arrived in Scotland ahead of a potential loan move to Rangers, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet reported on 17 January at 7:25 pm that Gers are closing in on a deal to secure the 22-year-old's services.

Philippe Clement is understood to be keen on signing a defender given the number of injuries at the club.

Rangers have made quick progress with Rafael Fernandes

The fact that he's already arrived in Scotland suggests that the club have made quick progress surrounding his transfer.

Had things still been in the initial stages, he would not have already flown in.

It makes sense for Lille to loan him out as he's yet to make a senior appearance in Ligue 1 for the French side.

This is despite them paying £2million to secure his services and he could certainly make a difference at Ibrox.

While he's not a name too many fans will be aware of, the same can be said about Hamza Igamane and even Neraysho Kasanwirjo and both players have done well.

There certainly will have been some groundwork being put into scouting him before the club are now closing in on securing his services.
