Oscar Cortes claim emerges on permanent Rangers move

Oscar Cortes’ move to Rangers has certainly not been a success for multiple reasons.

Philippe Clement was asked about the fact that the club are committed to paying money to sign the Colombian permanently.

The Belgian admitted that it was a good decision with the 21-year-old currently on loan from Lens.

Philippe Clement backs the decision to sign Oscar Cortes

Clement admitted that the Colombian winger has proven what it takes to be a successful player at the club.

Four Lads Had a Dream quoted him as saying: “Yes, Oscar has proven that. So, it’s about us as a club getting him fit again. He’s still a young player. So, for sure he will do that in the future.”

Despite the optimistic outlook from the manager regarding Cortes, there’s a considerable amount of scepticism among fans about his performance and impact since joining the club.

The 21-year-old has not convincingly proven himself at Ibrox, exhibiting inconsistency in his gameplay which has been further complicated by injury issues.

Fans have noted that for the substantial fee of £4million committed to securing his transfer, they expected a more immediate and significant contribution to the team’s dynamics.

Oscar Cortes has to prove his critics wrong at Rangers

His sporadic appearances due to fitness concerns have led to doubts about his value for money, especially when considering the expectations set by his transfer fee.

The Belgian’s confidence in Cortes seems to stem more from the financial commitment the club has already made rather than from his on-field performances.

Since the club are obligated to pay for him regardless of his current form, Clement cannot afford to write him off entirely.

It’s now on the Colombian to silence his critics at Ibrox and once he’s back to being at a 100 per cent, let his football do the talking.
