Rangers attacker Oscar Cortes may take over a month to return to full fitness post his injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that his return to the B team to play the Glasgow Cup final against Celtic on 17 December was a positive and the next step is for him to feature for the senior side.

The 21-year-old was on the bench against Dundee on 21 December but did not get any minutes in the 1-0 win at Ibrox.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: "Considering he played 45 minutes in a cup final, be it for the B team, I think it may be another game or two for the senior side before he can play the full 90, provided he responds well to those minutes as there's a lot that can happen once someone is out for so long.

"In terms of fully injury-free, I equate that with full fitness which can mean around five full matches.

"So I’d give it over a month assuming his minutes are ramped up."

Rangers are unlikely to rush Oscar Cortes back

The 21-year-old is only just back from a lengthy injury lay-off and for him to get five good games, it may take some time.

The first step will be to give him 15-30 minutes towards the end of games in which Gers are cruising.

If he's brought on with the contest on the knife's edge, he will unnecessarily feel the need to push himself, aggravating the risk of re-injury.
