Rangers ‘on alert’ after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comments
Rangers may have seen the winter transfer window close for business earlier this week, but there is still time for outgoing business to be done.
The 11pm deadline passed on 3 February with the pre-contract signing of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron the only incoming at Ibrox on the day.
However, the Gers rejected a loan offer from Besiktas with a £2.5million obligation to buy Ridvan Yilmaz [Yagiz Sabuncuoglu] on Deadline Day and could still be on alert after what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, as relayed by Sadece Besiktas on X (4 February), after the UK deadline.
Solskjaer said: “We are looking for players but the club spent a lot of money before. We have to be smart and bring in the right type of players.
“Our chairman is working hard. We have to focus on our own development now. Things will happen according to our plans.”
Rangers could soon be forced into major Ridvan Yilmaz decision
Ibrox News learned on 27 December that a permanent sale of Yilmaz was a top priority heading into the winter transfer window.
However, the Gers demanded a fee between £4.1million and £4.9m to sanction a mid-season sale, thus pricing Besiktas out of a move [Mustafa Korkusuz].
Solskjaer is preparing to bolster his squad in Turkey to launch a challenge to Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and his Manchester United predecessor Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until 11 February, giving the Super Lig outfit six days to strike a deal for Yilmaz.
Although Philippe Clement will now not be able to sign a replacement for the full-back, his eagerness to sell the player could lead to a deal, with the plan to reinvest the recouped funds at the end of the season.
Of course, the decision would be a calculated risk for the Gers – with knockout football in the Europa League ahead, it would be foolish for Clement to lose a quality squad player at this stage of the season.
Nevertheless, if Besiktas returned with an offer that Rangers deemed acceptable, Yilmaz could pack his bags at Ibrox.
