Rangers accept Zak Lovelace bid as Ibrox contract rejected

Rangers have accepted a bid from Championship club Millwall for Zak Lovelace, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via its website [3 February] that the two parties thrashed out a deal on Monday morning, a transfer which could reach seven figures with add-ons to complete a move to the Den.

It is understood the 19-year-old has been given permission to hold talks with his former club after rejecting a new contract at Ibrox for a more lucrative offer south of the border.

The Light Blues have now decided to maximise their money before the winter transfer window closes rather than take a development fee in the summer.

Zak Lovelace set for disappointing Rangers exit before 11pm deadline

Lovelace looked to be such an exciting signing when he arrived from Millwall in July 2022, but with his spell in Scotland plagued by injury, he is now set to leave without making much of an impact.

He made just eight first-team appearances despite notching 17 goals and seven assists in 34 appearances for the Rangers B team over nearly three years at the club.

Still the Lions’ second-youngest debut-maker, he was so much more promising than the player the Gers signed in 2022 but it is a brilliant deal for the Light Blues to cash in on.

If the Scottish side can get up to seven figures on a deal for Lovelace, having made just eight senior appearances during his time in Scotland, it should be seen as good business in this window.

With Vaclav Cerny, Ianis Hagi, Ross McCausland and Oscar Cortes all playing on the wing now, there is limited room for Lovelace, and given his injury record, he just cannot be trusted.

Supporters will be keen to see what the youngster does once he returns to the Championship, but right now, it looks like he will not be a Rangers player once the window closes at 11pm.
