Rabbi Matondo reveals ‘tough obstacles’ after what he did away from Rangers
Rabbi Matondo said he’s had to face “all types of obstacles” this season after leaving Rangers on loan to Hannover 96.
Matondo posted on his Instagram page (2 February) after making his debut and scoring for the German side on Saturday, having departed Ibrox for Bundesliga 2 until the end of the season.
The Welsh international had missed most of the Light Blues’ campaign following a hamstring injury picked up in September, and his departure on Thursday was seen as the best move for all parties.
Matondo said: “Delighted to get my first minutes and goal in Hannover 96 colours. Great moment for me and my family.
“It’s been a tough season so far not gonna lie with all types of obstacles thrown my way but I guess that’s life at times.”

While Matondo making an instant impact for Hannover could leave some feelings of regret amongst the higher-ups at Ibrox, his departure until the season’s end has had a positive effect on the Gers’ wage bill.
Nils Koppen will have been only too happy to sanction Matondo’s exit given the rate at which the Bears have wasted money on bit-part players in recent times – a category which the winger sadly falls into.
Matondo has indeed been through the wringer so far this term, with the hamstring injury suffered against Celtic disrupting his improving form and consigning him to the sidelines for much of the campaign.
Restricted to just eight appearances in all competitions, including three starts, the 24-year-old is clearly on the outer in Govan, and a departure under any circumstances this winter will have been welcomed.
Hannover may have the option to buy Matondo permanently for just £1million in the summer [BILD, 31 January], but if they choose not to, the Welshman could yet return to Ibrox as a player revitalised.
