Cyriel Dessers transfer: Rangers board make Philippe Clement promise today

Cyriel Dessers is set to stay at Rangers after the board made assurances to Philippe Clement, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports in its print edition (back page, 3 February) that the board have assured the Belgian that his squad will not be weakened by any more outgoings before the deadline.

Speculation over the Nigerian’s future has persisted throughout the winter transfer window with Italian club Cagliari interested in his services.

However, it would appear that the 30-year-old will not leave the Govan club this season despite his complaints over playing time.

Dessers to stay at Rangers?

The veteran looked set to leave Ibrox after falling down the pecking order under Clement due to the form of Hamza Igamane and Danilo.

The Nigeria international told the media, in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun on 16 January that the club could sell him in the winter window and that he just wants regular playing time, whether that be in Govan or not.

It was suggested that he had given up [Gary Keown] after those comments but that is not the case as he has experienced a mini-revival in recent weeks.

The former Cremonese star has contributed with six goals and an assist in his last six matches for the Gers with strikes against Aberdeen, Fraserburgh, Manchester United, and Dundee United.

The Bears ace has netted 18 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions so far this season and could add to that tally if he sticks around.
