Rangers backed to sign Vaclav Cerny for millions as ‘tremendous’ news emerges

Michael Gannon has backed Rangers to complete the permanent signing of current loanee Vaclav Cerny after the Czech winger impressed at Ibrox.

When it comes to standout players, Cerny has impressed consistently for Rangers but as it stands, he will return to his parent club Wolfsburg in the summer.

However, Gannon has backed the Light Blues to change that and complete the permanent signing of the winger in a multi-million-pound deal after it was reported Wolfsburg would require a £6.75million fee for his sale [Scottish Sun, 1 February pg 69].

In his column via the print edition of Sunday Mail (2 February, pg62), Gannon said: “If you want to rest easy, sometimes you need to pony up. And if Ibrox bosses can find the £6.75m to make Vaclac Cerny a permanent Ger, punters will definitely find it simpler to get shut-eye in the future.

“The revelation Wolfsburg’s owners Volkswagen have hit the financial skids and would accept that figure for the winger should be seen as tremendous news.”

Rangers must pursue Vaclav Cerny signing

While the current need is to bring in more players, retaining your best ones also has to be a consideration and Cerny certainly fits that bill.

The Czech international has impressed at Ibrox since arriving and has been one of the main catalysts behind Philippe Clement remaining in his job.

With 20 goal contributions across all competitions, Cerny has been in outstanding form and while the importance of Hamza Igamane can’t be overlooked, neither can the importance of the 28-year-old.

If the Gers can muster up a permanent deal, it leaves them with one less concern in the summer, of which there is likely to be many as they look to get back on track to a team capable of challenging Celtic for the title.

The need for somewhat of a rebuild at Ibrox is evident but there are many factors that must remain the same if they are to achieve their ultimate goal and keeping Cerny would go a long way to that.
