Ridvan Yilmaz transfer: Enquiries made in ‘positve’ Rangers update

Ridvan Yilmaz is open to joining Besiktas from Rangers in the winter transfer window, according to Gokmen Ozcan.

The Fanatik journalist has revealed on his personal X account (31 January) that the Super Lig outfit are in contact with the Gers for the defender.

Yilmaz had rejected approaches from several Turkish clubs in the past but is “looking positively” at returning to Istanbul in the coming days.

Rangers can’t sanction Ridvan Yilmaz transfer to Besiktas

While the 23-year-old may be angling for a move back home, the Light Blues can’t afford to lose him before mid-season.

At the start of the season, the left-back was a bit-part player for Philippe Clement but has showcased his importance amid the injury crisis at Ibrox.

Yilmaz has been deployed in several positions in recent matches and has done a decent job whenever called upon by the Belgian manager.

It has been encouraging for the Glaswegian outfit to see John Souttar and James Tavernier back, but squad depth will still be key going forward.

Rangers have made it to the knockout stages of the Europa League after beating Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 at home on Thursday (30 January).

The Bears will evidently need a decent squad to make it further in the competition and potentially lift a title at the end of the season.

While Tavernier and Jefte seem to be Clement’s chosen full-back at the moment, the Turkish ace will evidently come in handy in the coming months.

The Light Blues have faced unprecedented defensive injuries over the last few months and will arguably need a versatile player like Yilmaz if issues arise again in the future.
