McGinn baffled by Rangers transfer news he’s heard – ‘I’d be shocked’
Stephen McGinn has admitted that he would be shocked if the rumours of Chelsea interest in Jefte at Rangers were true.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea [Chris Jack, 28 January] during the winter transfer window after a strong debut season with the Gers.
Nevertheless, Philippe Clement claimed that the left-back is not yet at the stage for such a move and will be staying put at Ibrox for the time being.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast (30 January, 56:11), ex-Hibs midfielder McGinn echoed the manager’s thoughts as he said: “I’d be shocked if there’s any truth in that in terms of Chelsea.
“I do believe Jefte is an asset to Rangers, I do think at 21, left-sided, good size, quick, good carrier of the ball, still obviously improvement in his game to come as we’ve seen switching off for that second Manchester United goal but I do believe he’s an asset.
“I just don’t think at this moment in time, Chelsea have any interest in him.”
Work to be done at Rangers for Jefte
In his first season with the Light Blues, there has certainly been plenty of promise on show from the 21-year-old and hearing stories about reported interest from the Premier League will surely serve as great motivation for the Gers man.
However, now would be too soon for a move and the youngster would certainly be unlikely to flourish at a side that have far too many players, many of who are of great quality.
With this in mind, the left-back should be eager to carry on his journey at Ibrox and continue getting regular minutes, which will only allow him the opportunity to keep raising his standards on the pitch.

It’s a fairly random link that has been created, if the interest from the London side is untrue, but has at least affirmed where the 21-year-old is at in his career currently.
If Jefte continues to work hard and improves areas of his game, there is no reason why a big move couldn’t be on the cards for too long.
