Jefte exit: Ferguson drops ‘Danger’ verdict after Rangers transfer news he heard
Barry Ferguson says there are things Rangers left-back Jefte needs to work on in his game before a move to a side like Chelsea can be considered.
Although the 21-year-old only made the move to Ibrox in the summer, he has been linked with a move to Chelsea [Chris Jack, 28 January] during the winter transfer window.
However, when asked about the links, Philippe Clement claimed that the left-back is not ready and will not be going anywhere for the time being.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast (29 January, 35:29), Ferguson agreed with the manager’s assessment on Jefte, though expects plenty of sides from “down South” in England to be interested in a player he thinks is a “real danger”.
The former Gers captain said; “Look I agree with what the manager’s just said there, going forward really dangerous, very direct.
“Defensively got a lot to work on and he’s in the early stages. This is the first real season where he’s played in a competitive level week in, week out and again he is getting better, you can see that. But defensively he does need to work on things.
“Granty [Peter Grant] was going on about the Celtic situation, back post. That’s where, his body shape, he needs to really work at that and if he works at that and he gets better at that then I don’t see any reason why a club down south wouldn’t come in because going forward, he’s a real danger.”
Jefte not ready for a move away from Rangers
At just 21-years-old, the left-back has had a strong first season with the Light Blues having made 21 appearances with two assists to his name in the campaign so far and, therefore, it’s understandable that links have been spoken about during the transfer window.
However, the view of both Clement and Ferguson is probably fair enough as Jefte hasn’t done enough so far to show that he could perform to a high standard on a regular basis, as well as having areas of his game that need developing.

For the young player, it will no doubt be a confidence boost to hear his name being spoken about in the same breath as top Premier League teams and it certainly gives the defender somewhere to aspire to.
That being said, the most crucial thing for the meantime is for Jefte to get his head down and work hard on getting his performances up to the highest standard at Ibrox so if an offer for a move comes in that he is ready for, he can make the transition smoothly.
