Rangers braced as Jefte agent ‘shares shock reveal’ after Chelsea approach

Rangers are now bracing themselves for a “shock” bid from Chelsea for Jefte in the winter transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

The news outlet reported via its website [27 January] that the Brazilian’s representatives have informed the Gers that Chelsea are interested in his services.

Although Rangers have yet to receive an offer from the Premier League giants [Chris Jack], initial contact has been made as the London outfit consider a potential move in the final days of the transfer window.

Rangers cannot afford to lose Jefte to Chelsea

Philippe Clement cannot afford to lose Jefte this late in the transfer window.

Since arriving from Fluminense in the summer, the 21-year-old has been a regular feature in the Belgian’s first-team plans and is one of few players who could form the long-term project at Ibrox.

Furthermore, Jefte has been one of the only reliable defensive options for the Light Blues, with James Tavernier, Leon Balogun, John Souttar, Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo all spending considerable time on the sidelines this season.

It will be difficult for Clement to thwart Chelsea’s interest, especially if Todd Boehly whips out the chequebook like he has done so many times since taking over in West London.

However, Ibrox News learned on 27 December that fellow full-back Ridvan Yilmaz is the priority departure for this window and despite the lack of concrete interest until now, should remain the likelier of the two to leave.

Rangers would have little time to find an adequate replacement and should thwart Chelsea’s approach for the time being. A summer departure is more likely, which opens more possibilities for Clement to strengthen his squad.
