Cyriel Dessers exit: Rangers star now chosen one for brand new transfer

Rangers attacker Cyriel Dessers is “the chosen one” at Cagliari for a late window transfer, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reports in its print edition (page 10, 27 January) that Cagliari are focusing all their attention on a move for the Gers ace.

It states that the Sardinian club are waiting to sell Gianluca Lapadula before making their move for the Nigeria international.

The 30-year-old has made 21 Scottish Premiership appearances this campaign, scoring eight goals.

Dessers set for Rangers exit?

Speculation over the Nigerian’s future at the Govan club continues as the 3 February transfer deadline looms.

He has fallen out of favour with Philippe Clement preferring Hamza Igamane and Danilo over the veteran forward, although he did start at Dundee United.

However, the fact that the Italian side needs to sell a player before making their move for the Bears star means that the move is complicated.

Dessers is desperate for regular playing time, whether that is with the Light Blues or not and Clement could use the funds raised to reinvest in his squad.

However, suggestions that he has given up Ibrox, such as those made by Gary Keown on 19 January [Scottish Mail] seem wide of the mark as he has scored six goals in his last four appearances.

His hat-trick against Fraserburgh and strikes against Aberdeen, Manchester United, and Dundee United may tempt other suitors out of the woodwork in the final days of the window.
