Rangers would be "crazy" to sell Cyriel Dessers in the winter transfer window after his goal against Dundee United, Craig Levein says.

The BBC pundit believes the Nigerian striker could get even better after scoring the third goal in the 3-1 win at Tannadice Park on Sunday (26 January).

Levein believes it wouldn't be sensible for the Gers to sell the 30-year-old without signing a replacement.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (26 January), the Scottish manager said: "There's a part of me that thinks he might get better. And if he does, he's going to be a really top player. It's crazy to move him on if you've not got somebody to replace him."

Rangers need new striker before Cyriel Dessers transfer after what he did v Dundee United

Dessers was on the scoresheet once again for the Bears as they beat the Tangerines away from home despite going behind in the first half.

The Glaswegian outfit successfully completed a comeback as the former Cremonese forward put the cherry on top with his 86th-minute strike.

Over the last few games, the 30-year-old has been in fine form, scoring thrice in the 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh and a goal at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Rangers have relied on Hamza Igamane as the first choice number nine over the last few months, and the Moroccan has evidently cemented his place in Philippe Clement's plans.

While Dessers has found game time hard to come by due to the 22-year-old's emergence, he can still be a key player until the end of the season.

Danilo is another option at the Belgian manager's disposal, but the Brazilian's fitness issues don't make him a dependable backup.

While the Nigerian ace might not get better as Levein suggested, considering his age, it would arguably be prudent of the Gers to keep him at Ibrox to maintain depth in their ranks.
