Rangers in talks with Lyall Cameron camp as new transfer timeline emerges
Rangers have held talks with Lyall Cameron’s camp about completing a deal to bring the midfielder this summer, Scott Burns has said.
The midfielder has been linked with an Ibrox switch since the winter transfer window opened but Burns says it is unlikely the Gers will pay out any cash for signings in the winter.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (21 January), Daily Record journalist Burns shared an update on where things currently stand with both parties.
“It’s now about moving players out to try and free up budget for this window,” he said.
“The other one they are working on is Lyall Cameron, I think there’s been discussions with his camp about a potential deal.
“The deal will be for the summer, I don’t see Rangers paying out any more fees in this window unless they move players on.”
Lyall Cameron would be an interesting move for Rangers
Last summer, Rangers pulled off a similar coup to Cameron with their move for Connor Barron who also joined Philippe Clement’s men on a free transfer.
However, one of the main differences is that the Dundee midfielder has a couple more years of experience under his belt and can be used in both an advanced and defensive role in the centre of the park.
This season, the midfielder – who was once described as “fantastic” by Tony Docherty – has been used in a more defensive role but has still contributed to 15 goals in 29 games across all competitions.
While Rangers welcomed Nedim Bajrami and have now found a place for Ianis Hagi in the squad, it certainly wouldn’t hurt anything to welcome yet another creative player to their ranks.

Creativity is exactly what the young Scotsman would bring to Clement’s squad and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him challenging for a first-team spot from the get-go.
It does, however, make sense for Rangers to wait until the summer to welcome him to Ibrox because, at the moment, their midfield is fairly stacked with other areas of the squad in a much greater need of reinforcement.
