Lawrence Shankland reacts to confirmed Rangers transfer news

Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland and ex-Rangers star Abdallah Sima have both sent messages to Alex Lowry in response to his Ibrox exit announcement.

After spending several years at Ibrox, Lowry announced his Rangers exit in an Instagram post on Tuesday evening (21 January) and has since joined English League One side Wycombe Wanderers.

Several familiar faces sent their best wishes to Lowry, with Hearts striker Shankland and former Gers loanee Sima both echoing the sentiments left by many.

In reply to his post, Shankland said “I like you”, along with a love heart emoji, while Sima replied: “Good luck brother.”

Rangers rebuild is slowly underway

As well respected as Lowry was at Ibrox, he simply didn’t have a future at Rangers having failed to make an appearance under Philippe Clement this season, and there comes a time when an exit decision has to be made.

For both player and club, that decision is probably the right one at the given time, with Lowry now able to pursue a career in England and Rangers offloading a player who held little significance from a senior squad point of view.

At 21 years old, any involvement going forward looked unlikely for Lowry and, while he will not have been on significant wages, it allows that small bit of extra wiggle space for the Light Blues to bring some new faces in.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done at Ibrox with several more players on the fringes of the squad and plenty more incoming needed in an attempt to somewhat revive their campaign.
