Ianis Hagi contract: Clement shares ‘Unnecessary’ new Rangers reveal
Philippe Clement should not have discussed the Rangers contract situation of Ianis Hagi, Stevie Clifford says.
The Four Lads had a dream man believes it’s “unnecessary” to talk about the Romanian playmaker’s situation since the Gers have the option to extend his deal beyond this season.
The Belgian manager recently admitted that the 26-year-old will be a free agent this summer if the Light Blues can’t agree on fresh terms [The Rangers Review, 18 January].
Speaking on The Rangers Review Morning Briefing (20 January), Clifford said: “It’s totally unnecessary for us to be discussing that. He’s got a contract clause, which means we can extend it.
“All we have done by that conversation is let everyone know that Ianis is available in the summer for free. I’m not sure I agree with that.”
Ianis Hagi contract compromise needed at Rangers
The Glaswegian outfit aren’t expected to extend Hagi’s contract on his current salary [Daily Mail, 18 January].
Considering the importance of the Romanian midfielder in recent weeks, the Bears should come to a compromise with him.
The 26-year-old has had a resurgence this season, starting in the last five games for the Light Blues.
Rangers have relied on Hagi’s creativity as they managed to turn the tide after a poor start to the season.
Clement has arguably survived the sack this long due to the performances of a handful of players over the last few months, including the former Genk star.
The Romanian midfielder found himself out of the Belgian manager’s plans at the start of the campaign as the Gers put in underwhelming displays, but he has quickly become one of the saviours at Ibrox.
It wouldn’t be sensible for the Bears to get rid of the 26-year-old for free in the coming months.
Hagi should undoubtedly be an integral part of the Light Blues’ team next season if they have any ambition of getting back to the top.
In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers should be brutally moved on in the winter transfer window.
