Rafael Fernandes transfer development emerges amid Rangers links
Lille defender Rafael Fernandes has been spotted outside the Rangers training centre, as seen in an image shared by Le Petit Lillois.
The French media outlet reposted an image from X and claimed that the 22-year-old is close to moving to Gers on loan. [Sky Sports, 17 January]
The Portuguese centre-back is understood to be the first January signing and it’s believed that another deal is also in the pipeline.
Rangers could announce Rafael Fernandes’ services imminently
Everything appears to be in place for Fernandes to become the first signing of the January transfer window.
The fact that he’s already jetted into Scotland and is already at the club’s facilities, it seems that the deal is now down to both sides agreeing on a deal.
Had he not been interested in moving to Ibrox, he would not be in Glasgow and that is a major positive for Gers fans.
Philippe Clement will also be pleased as he’s facing an injury crisis and is short on quality central defenders.
One positive is that Clinton Nsiala has showcased just how good he can be and it won’t be a surprise if he makes the left centre-back position his own come the end of the season.
Fernandes has not played any league minutes this season so it might be best to ease him rather than expecting him to play 90 minutes right off the bat.
In other Rangers news, a first-team player is likely to join an English club in the January transfer window.
