‘Rangers to terminate loan deal as Hanley transfer wrapped up’

Rangers can now cancel a loan deal after Grant Hanley completed a January transfer.

The Gers have been in need of a centre-back in recent weeks with John Souttar and Leon Balogun struggling with injury concerns.

This has seen summer signing Clinton Nsiala start three times in the backline in January but there is a chance that the winter window could be utilised.

The Light Blues may not sign a new defender but could utilise options within their squad, especially after what has happened at Birmingham City.

Rangers can cancel loan deal after Grant Hanley transfer

The League One outfit confirmed on 17 January that they had signed Grant Hanley on a permanent deal from Norwich City.

Given that the Scotland international has taken a step down from the second to the third tier, he is likely to have an assurance over first-team minutes moving forward.

This could result in Rangers recalling Ben Davies from his loan at St Andrew’s, just six months after moving to the West Midlands.

The 29-year-old has made just 12 league starts for the Blues and may benefit from a return to Ibrox with the potential of featuring more regularly.

This may prove to be a deal that suits all parties, with the Gers getting cover for a position they are light in while Birmingham gets a player who they might not need off their books.

Regardless of the ex-Liverpool man having a difficult initial stint in Govan, a return may see him flourish back in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, one chief has raged over the “horrendous” thing that he’s noticed about Philippe Clement.
