Leon Balogun will soon return from his injury as Rangers face Dundee on Thursday, Philippe Clement says.

The Belgian manager has revealed that the defender will be back shortly after picking up a knock in the 2-1 loss against St Mirren on Boxing Day.

While the 50-year-old head coach expects the Nigerian centre-back to be back soon, he will not be available for the trip to Dens Park on 9 January, along with John Souttar and James Tavernier.

Speaking at his latest press conference (8 January) ahead of the Dundee game, Clement said: "Balogun will be back in the short-term, but he won't be back for tomorrow. John Souttar and James Tavernier won't be back for the weekend — but we can't put exact dates on these things."

Rangers will miss Leon Balogun v Dundee

The Bears will certainly miss the Nigerian star against the Dark Blues, with Souttar already on the sidelines.

Dujon Sterling and Robin Propper have formed the defensive pairing in the last few weeks, but Clement revealed that even the Englishman is a doubt for the upcoming fixture.

The Belgian manager had to call upon Leon King against Hibernian, as the Gers let a two-goal lead slip in the 3-3 draw on Sunday (5 January).

Rangers will likely have to rely on the 20-year-old to play alongside Propper if Sterling can't feature.

While losing points in the Scottish Premiership feels inconsequential due to Celtic's lead, the Light Blues will arguably need their strongest side to feature in the Europa League.

The Bears face Manchester United at Old Trafford on 23 January, and Clement will evidently need his best players available to take on the Premier League giants.

Considering the Light Blues have all left to play for in the European competitions, the Ibrox faithful will hope Balogun and the rest of the injured crew make a swift return.
