Josh Mulligan given seal of approval as Rangers transfer news emerges
Derek Ferguson admits that he loves Josh Mulligan and would take him and his Dundee teammate Lyall Cameron at Rangers.
Having seen him play at Ibrox in November, Ferguson believes that Mulligan was the one who made things happen for his side.
Andy Halliday recently urged Gers to secure a pre-contract agreement for both of them with their deals running out at the end of the season.
Speaking on Open Goal on 16 January at 17:50: “Boy, I love him. There’s no credit to him that he can go and play that position (wing-back). I watched him at Ibrox and he was the one that got Dundee up the park. I would take them (Mulligan and Cameron) in a minute [at Rangers].”
Rangers must seriously look into signing Josh Mulligan
Mulligan has shown he can excel in various positions, notably as a wing-back, where he effectively drives the team forward.
His performance at Ibrox, among others, have highlighted his ability to initiate and contribute to attacking plays, making him a dynamic asset on the pitch.
With his contract at Dundee expiring at the end of the season, securing him on a pre-contract offers Rangers a cost-effective solution to bolster their squad depth without a significant transfer fee.
The 22-year-old’s potential to adapt and thrive in high-pressure environments suggests he could quickly become a key player and he’s also a two-time league winner, winning the League Two and Championship for Cove Rangers and Dundee respectively.
Additionally, with Gers being criticised for not investing enough in Scottish talent, signing Mulligan alongside Cameron would not only address this critique but also enrich the team with homegrown talent, potentially improving the relationship with the fans.
It remains to be seen if Gers pursue this as they have looked at pre-contract arrangements with SPFL players in the past.
