Rangers new manager: ‘Stephen Robinson to replace Clement’, Bartley reacts
Rangers will not appoint Stephen Robinson as their next manager if Philippe Clement is sacked, Marvin Bartley says.
The ex-midfielder reacted after a fan said he had heard the St Mirren boss could be appointed at Ibrox in the summer.
Bartley admitted it would be a “surprise” to see the 50-year-old head coach make the jump from the Saints to the Gers if Clement is fired.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard after the fan shared what he had heard (16 January), Bartley said: “I can’t see him [Robinson] jumping from St Mirren to Rangers. It would surprise me.”
Stephen Robinson to Rangers?
St Mirren are eighth in the Scottish Premiership table eight now, 20 points behind the Bears after an abysmal run of form.
The Saints have lost their last four matches in the league, and Robinson’s tactics have been exposed during those results, which will certainly not impress the Bears’ supporters.
While the Paisley club have done well since the 50-year-old’s return to Scottish football, their performances this season have been underwhelming.
Rangers have struggled under Clement this season, with the Belgian manager failing to bring consistency to Ibrox, which could lead to the end of his tenure.

While the Light Blues have done well at home, they have been disappointing on their travels, leading fans to call for the former Monaco head coach’s dismissal.
To get back to the top, a renowned manager may be needed, like Celtic have in Brendan Rodgers.
For now, the Bears’ hierarchy is evidently backing Clement, but a change in the dugout could be inevitable if results don’t improve in the coming months.
In other Rangers news, the Glaswegian outfit could pull off “great business” if they get a double deal over the line.
